HOUSTON – Last Saturday’s 2024 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl was supposed to be Davius Richard’s last national exposure before the intense scrutiny from scouts and analysts in the run-up to the 2024 NFL Draft. With his shrewd leadership, the quarterback for Team Gaither orchestrated an impressive 70+ yard opening touchdown drive. Unfortunately, he sustained a significant injury on the play.
As the medical cart escorted Richard from Yulman Stadium’s west endzone, the injury appeared to be a crushing blow for the talented signal-caller. The outlook appeared grim, but later turned positive. One thing is for certain, it did not shatter his faith and optimism.

“Thank you to everyone for your love and support. Romans 8:28,” Richard posted on social media. “I would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of support and prayers expressed following my injury during the HBCU Legacy Bowl. As a Man of Faith, I understand wholeheartedly that no weapon formed against thee shall prosper.”
Richard expressed gratitude to the HBCU Legacy Bowl, Team Gaither, the University Medical Center team, and his agent, Rasheeda Liberty.
“I remain optimistic and in good spirits on the road to recovery and journey back to the field. This is just a test in my testimony,” Davius Richard ended.

The recovery time for a dislocated right foot ranges from 4 to 6 months. Richard had caught the attention of numerous NFL teams before his injury. The next step was for teams to schedule visits during the draft process. Although injured, he could prove to be a valuable asset in the mid-to-late rounds or as an undrafted free agent.
